The two most common reasons for needing your wheels replaced are corrosion and wear.  How often they need to be replaced depends on environment and frequency of use.  Wheels that are in your sliding doors are either metal or nylon and they have bearings.  Like any moving part, they wear out and need to be replaced.  Here are just a couple of examples of worn and new rollers.

When wheels/rollers wear out, the aluminum track (or rail) they’re riding on is usually the first thing to be affected.  Whether dented or actually worn away, the rail can be resurfaced and made almost (and in some cases better than) new.  This is an inexpensive way to help your door slide like new.
